The Dashboards Guidelines are used to streamline dashboards so that they are driving actions more effectively. It's often useful to align on which KPIs are used for which purpose in the company by going through a KPIs alignment process using the KPIs Hierarchy framework.

Each dashboard should meet the following criteria:

  • Easy to read

  • Quick to identify key insights required to make decisions and take action

  • Makes often required questions easily answered

A good dashboard is not:

  • Huge

  • Includes many KPIs and views

  • Answers ad hoc questions. Queries, ad hoc analyses and exploration models are for ad hoc purposes.
